Anya is a curious and ambitious high school student whose journey into computer science began with Kode With Klossy. Before attending her first KWK camp, she had no formal coding experience and had only encountered STEM spaces that felt male-dominated and intimidating. KWK shifted that entirely—she found a warm, encouraging community where everyone was excited to learn and help each other. The vibe was collaborative and creative, and she remembers the instructors and fellow scholars as generous, knowledgeable, and fun. That first experience helped her see coding not as something exclusive or rigid, but as something personal, expressive, and within reach. Since then, Anya has leaned fully into computer science and its intersections with her other interests, especially biology and medicine. She’s participated in a Girls Who Code Python course at Columbia, won a school grant to build a website that helps New Yorkers donate supplies to local homeless shelters, and applied data analysis skills from KWK’s data science camp to real-world problems. Her dream is to major in bioinformatics—an ideal fusion of her passions for medicine, research, and tech. If that specific major isn’t available, she’s planning a double major in biology and computer science. She’s also been exploring the ethical design of AI systems and building out her HTML skills with an eye toward creating her own models in the future. Beyond academics, KWK has also shaped Anya’s high school life in meaningful ways. She’s built lasting friendships through the program, bonded with peers and teachers over their shared love of coding, and even inspired others to apply. Whether it's exchanging controversial pizza opinions or organizing school bake sales for Doctors Without Borders, Anya brings creativity, humor, and heart to everything she does. KWK gave her not just technical skills, but a lasting sense of community, confidence, and direction—one that continues to shape her future.
