Maya is a Harvard senior studying Computer Science and Government with a passion for leveraging technology to drive social change. Her journey into tech began with Kode With Klossy in 2020, where she attended a virtual camp focused on web development. That summer, she helped build a website that centralized resources from the Black Lives Matter movement, sparking a deeper interest in using code for social impact. The following year, she returned to KWK for Swift development, ultimately creating a chatbot that reflected her own STEM journey — a project that won her the 2021 Apple Swift Student Challenge and led to a demo for Tim Cook alongside Karlie Kloss. Since then, Maya has remained deeply engaged with Kode With Klossy, serving as an instructor assistant, community ambassador, and curriculum design intern, helping teach and inspire hundreds of young women and nonbinary students across the country. Her commitment to inclusive, purpose-driven tech is reflected in all her work. At Harvard, she leads HCS Tech for Social Good, a student organization that creates pro bono digital tools for nonprofits like the CDC and the City of Boston. She also conducts AI-related research as a research assistant at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, where she’s currently building an AI chatbot to help students explore ethical tech programming. Maya's resume also includes fellowships with Code2040, Bloomberg, Netflix, and Rewriting the Code, and accolades like the Princeton Prize in Race Relations and NCWIT’s Aspirations in Computing. She has spoken on algorithmic bias at the United Nations and continues to explore the intersection of ethics and innovation in her work. Whether leading teams, designing curriculum, or launching a startup, Maya brings the same values that grounded her early coding experiences — a belief in people-first technology, a drive to challenge systemic inequities, and a deep commitment to empowering others to see themselves in STEM.
