Meet Chloe — a KWK scholar & IA from NYC
I was a camper at Kode With Klossy NYC in 2018. There, I learned coding for the first time and became introduced to a network of inspiring and incredible creatives, activists, and innovators. The next summer, in 2019, I taught Swift as a TA in Portland, Oregon, and met a group of wonderful people, who I’ve since followed as they’ve graduated middle, high school, and even college. After these experiences, I was also able to stay involved with the program through events in NYC. I helped photograph Karlie Kloss for Express, took headshots and brainstormed and created designs for KWK, and met with the team to brainstorm new ideas for upcoming summers.

Since participating in Kode with Klossy, I've been maintaining my feminist magazine, Keke, which has written about the organization. Using my knowledge gained from the KWK program, I was able to edit and publish more stories about tech and women in tech. While in college, I took a Creative Coding class to further my expertise. I also interned at Yahoo News, and later, became an AI reporter for Motherboard, VICE. My technology and coding experience at KWK greatly helped shape my role there, as my beat was specifically about the ethics of AI and how AI impacts marginalized communities. I used my reporting to uplift the work of female AI experts such as Emily Bender and Timnit Gebru. Now, I am a social media manager at The New Yorker, where I continue to prioritize informative and incisive storytelling in my daily work.
