I was a Kode With Klossy scholar in 2023 for the Data Science camp and again in 2024 for the Web Development camp. Both experiences played a huge role in shaping my journey in tech. In 2023, the data science camp helped me go beyond the basics I had taught myself. I learned how to analyse datasets using Python, SQL, and HTML while exploring real-world issues like food insecurity. This is something that hits close to home in Kenya. My final project focused on creating a tool to help families access nutritious, budget-friendly meals. It allowed me to combine both technical skills and social impact.

Later that year, I built on that foundation when my team entered the Craydel Cup, Kenya’s largest computing and business competition. We developed a hospital catering business model that used insights from my Kode With Klossy project. I applied statistical methods like hypothesis testing to strengthen our research. Out of 113 teams, we placed first nationwide. This experience boosted my confidence, deepened my love for data, and gave me the chance to connect with hospital officials and pitch real-world solutions.

In 2024, I returned as a Community Ambassador. I helped spotlight stories within the KWK network and engage with others online. Now, in 2025, I am thrilled to be serving as an Instructor Assistant at three virtual data science camps. The friends I have made through KWK, even virtually, continue to support and inspire me. This community has truly changed the way I view both tech and myself.

After my first KWK Data Science camp, I realised how much I loved the subject thus I decided to pursue it as my degree. I’m now studying Data Science at UCL and serve on the committee of UCL’s Data Science Society, which is the largest tech society at the university. Being part of this community has helped me grow in confidence and leadership, and has pushed me to merge my interests with my academic path. For example, I’ve started exploring data projects related to Formula 1, combining my love for the sport with my skills in analysis and visualisation. KWK genuinely shaped my direction and gave me the belief that I could do this.
